About
I find thinking up titles for pieces of music I've written really difficult. Titles seem to come with so much baggage somehow. I feel very self-conscious whenever I start to think about titles for my stuff. This got me thinking: how much influence does a title of a piece influence how the listener hears it and experiences it? Does it have any influence at all? I wanted to explore this idea and out of that random musing, THE TITLE TRACK was born.
- Emma Clarke
The Title Track explores how the title of a piece of music influences how it's heard.
The format is simple: Emma asks her mates what a particular title conjures up for them, and what memories and ideas it sparks. Then she asks them how they'd expect a piece of music with that title to sound. And only then do they get to actually hear the music.
Once they've had a listen, they tell us how the music made them think and feel. Was it what they expected? Or something wildly different?

When Emma approached me to ask if I'd like to be involved in the production of THE TITLE TRACK I jumped at the chance. As a Creative Audio Producer, I've worked with Emma for many years on a number of audio projects and I instantly thought the concept of the podcast was very interesting.
I love music. I'm fascinated by how it can make me feel through emotional and physical responses. Until now, I hadn't realised how, in many instances, knowing the title of a piece of music before hearing it had an influence on the way I felt and the images it created in my head.
